Welcome - Who We Are
Public Charter School Partnership between the Oregon City School District, Private Industry
and Clackamas Community College

The idea for the Clackamas Academy of Industrial Sciences arose from the Oregon City School District’s 2006 Future Focus meeting. Since that time the Oregon City School District was awarded a Charter School Planning Grant to develop the community partnerships and design the school's academic foundation. Our community partners, represented in our current board of directors, are members of a variety of local companies and organizations that are committed to strengthening the connection between school, work, and community.

Curriculum Focus

The Clackamas Academy of Industrial Sciences will create a work-site environment in an academic setting. Students will experience science, mathematics, language arts, social studies, and technology as they discover how knowledge is used to create work settings, develop solutions and to improve products. Students complete graded, project-based work orders that require them to demonstrate that they can learn while they are solving problems.

Students are expected to achieve fluency in the use of ratio and proportion, measurement, algebra, coordinate geometry, and trigonomic ratios. Basic chemistry, physics, and biology must be understood by all students as well as principals of engineering design. The history of the United States, Europe, Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe will be learned through the lens of economic, political, diplomatic, military and social history.

Oregon City High School Partnership

Clackamas Academy of Industrial Sciences students will spend the majority of their first two years on the OCHS campus. Oregon City High School received an “Outstanding” ranking on the Oregon Department of Education Annual Report Card, which is based in part on the results of 10th grade student tests scores. CAIS students will acquire academic foundations at OCHS. During their first two years, they will also complete projects in the CAIS Learning Lab where they will engage in career exploration, learn about LEAN Manufacturing principles, green energy, networking, job readiness, field trips, and build scale models using a variety of materials. Once students achieve basic proficiency in all areas, they can select AP or Honors classes at OCHS, or take academic courses at Clackamas Community College while completing internships.
